A probe has not pinpointed the cause of a January house fire in New York's Hudson Valley that killed three college students, two of them from Connecticut. Fire investigators suspect smoking or electrical devices may have caused the blaze.
21-year-old Eva Block, a Marist College student from Woodbridge died of smoke inhalation at the rental home. Mark Conti, Block's boyfriend, said at her funeral in Fairfield that a scholarship was being established for a student of fashion design, which was Block's major.
20-year old Kevin Johnson of New Canaan, who was not a student, and Kerry Fitzsimons of Commack, New York were also killed in the fire. Johnson was a Dutchess Community College student.
Four other people in the house escaped without serious injuries by jumping out windows. The off-campus house was being rented by six female Marist students.
