Bethel Schools were placed on lockdown Thursday afternoon as police tracked a man at the educational park. School officials say there was a man in distress in the nearby woods that police were tracking to give assistance.
Bethel Police say the emotionally distraught man, a Reynolds Ridge Apartments resident, was living with his grandmother. He stabbed himself in the wrist with a steak knife. He was last seen leaving the apartment by his wife, and headed in the direction of Berry Elementary School.
All 5 schools were in lockdown, but the students are safe.
Since it was a police scene, parents were asked not to go to the schools. A robo-call went out telling parents of the situation. The lockdown started shortly before 12:30pm and schools came out of lockdown-mode about 90 minutes later.
The man was found on the trails of the East Swamp area off Ballfield Road around 1:40pm. He was transported to Danbury Hospital for evaluation.
