A local business has contributed $45,000 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Bob's Discount Furniture is granting bedroom makeover wishes for children with life threatening medical illnesses. Public Relations Director Cathy Poulin says the wishes will be granted in the 9 states where Bob's operates.
The alliance was kicked off by Bob's sponsoring Connecticut's Make-A-Wish annual Evening of Giving gala at Mohegan Sun on Saturday. Some of the activities at this weekend's annual Make-A-Wish gala included tastings prepared by Celebrity chef Robert Irving, a silent auction and meeting a child they're honoring this year.
In 2010 Bob's footed the bill for an 11-year old boy who wanted a bedroom makeover. Angel picked out a dresser, mirror, bed, chest and recliner. The foundation says afterward, Angel felt like he was living in a hotel suite.
Make-A-Wish says kids have told them the wishes give them renewed strength to fight their illness. They grant a wish somewhere in the world every 23 minutes. They are in the United States, its territories and 47 other countries on 5 continents. Since 1980, the organization has granted more than 280,000 wishes.
