Newtown residents reject proposed 2012-2013 budget

Newtown residents have rejected the proposed budget up for a vote in referendum Tuesday.  There were 2,488 no votes and 1,943 yes ballots cast. 

The budget referendum asked registered residents if $107.8 million should be appropriated as the annual budget for the 2012-2013 fiscal year.  That number represented a 2.34 percent tax increase. 

There is a new initiative proposed in the Board of Education budget, all day Kindergarten.
