The Drug Enforcement Administration is working with local and state police for the 4th annual Prescription Drug Take Back Day. According to a 2010 National survey on drug use and health, more Americans abuse prescription drugs than the number of those using cocaine, hallucinogens and heroin combined.
State Police Sgt Sean Corey says prescription drug abuse is a major epidemic across the country and this effort prevents home medicine cabinets from becoming sources of dangerous and even deadly drugs. Corey says nearly a million pounds, almost 500 tons, of prescription drugs have been collected at over 5,300 sites across the country.
The event is from 10am to 2pm
Collection sites include Resident State Trooper offices in Bethlehem, Bridgewater, New Fairfield, Roxbury, Southbury, Woodbury and Washington Depot. Collections will also take place at Police stations in Bethel, Danbury and Newtown; at Brookfield Pharmacy and the Monroe Senior Center.
