Newtown Police are investigating the report of a 16-year old girl being assaulted in her backyard yesterday.  Officers responded to Toddy Hill Road around 1:30pm for the report of a suspicious incident.

The teen, who had stayed home from school, said that an unknown man, who she presumed to be a salesman, approached her and asked her how old she was.  When the girl said she was going to get her mother, the unknown man pushed her to the ground and ran away.

The suspect was described as a tall white male with brown hair and clean shaven. He was wearing a black button down shirt with black pants.

A search of the area with State Police K9 units did not find anything.  Anyone with information about the suspect or incident is asked to contact the Newtown Police Department.

Newtown Police said in a statement that the Department is committed to the safety of the entire community, its students and residents.  They advise the community not to rely on social media or rumors as it can cause unneeded anxiety.
