Carmel Police and the Putnam County Sheriff's Department peacefully ended a barricade incident on Sunday. Police responded to a home on Bullet Hole Road in Mahopac to perform a welfare check on a 20-year-old man who was possibly suicidal.
The man became highly agitated and told police he would not go back to the hospital. He threatened to get a knife and stab whoever tried taking him to the hospital, barricaded himself in his bedroom and threatened to burn the house down.
The Emergency Response Team surrounded the house while the Hostage Negotiation Team spoke by phone with the man for about an hour. They persuaded him to surrender peacefully and took him to an area hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
