A Newtown man has turned himself in to State Police on charges stemming from a fatal motor vehicle accident that happened last May.  19-year old Michael Alan Vitti of Sandy Hook posted 15-hundred dollars bond Monday and released for a March 20th court appearance.

He was charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, failure to maintain the lane and distracted driving.

State Police say Vitti's vehicle approached a sweeping right curve on the I-84 eastbound exit 11 ramp May 30th.  64-year old Gerard Mauskapf had pulled his vehicle over to the right shoulder and was standing next to it when he was fatally struck.

Troopers determined that Vitti became distracted, not by a cellphone, and traveled into the right shoulder, hitting the Red Hook, New York man and his stopped car.  State Police did not detail how Vitti was distracted.
