A driver fled the scene of a single-vehicle crash in Newtown early Saturday morning. Sandy Hook Fire Chief Bill Halstead says a jeep was found on its side on Route 34 near Sherman Street, with a tree down and utility pole snapped in half across the roadway. Firefighters searched the area with a thermal imaging camera, but the driver was not found. She was later located more than half a mile away at Misty Vale Deli and transported to the Hospital for treatment of injuries. Firefighters remained on scene while Eversource cut the power and then a tow truck removed the vehicle. The road was closed until well into the morning, while crews replaced the pole.
