A Danbury woman fled Brookfield Police yesterday, but was eventually located by Danbury Police at her home. A Brookfield officer saw 32-year old Laura Perkins talking on her cell phone while driving on Federal Road and tried to pull her over.
The woman allegedly sped up, weaved in between cars, ran a red light and drove onto a grassy area, before getting on Route 7. Brookfield officers stopped pursuit, but alerted Danbury Police.
Perkins was found at her home and transported to the Brookfield Police station.
Local Police Departments are participating in a stepped up enforcement of distracted driver laws this month in a campaign called U Drive. U Text. U Pay.
Perkins was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, failure to drive in the proper lane, traveling unreasonably fast, engaging police in pursuit, using a cell phone while operating a motor vehicle, failure to obey a traffic control signal, passing on the right and reckless driving. She was held on bond for a court appearance on the 24th.
