A boat was struck by lightning on Lake Mahopac on Independence Day. The Putnam County Sheriff’s Marine Patrol Unit responded to a report of an occupied boat Wednesday, which was disabled.
The vessel was occupied by two men and two women, ranging in age from 28 to 41. Three of the four passengers required immediate medical care.
The owner of Mahopac Marine helped tow the disabled vessel to the dock. Paramedics and firefighters boarded the boat. Two passengers were transported to Putnam Hospital Center, and one passenger was transported to Danbury Hospital.
The lightning strike destroyed the majority of electrical equipment on the boat, rendering it disabled.
