An 84-year old Putnam County resident's identity was used by a 38-year old to open a credit card, leading to charges against the New York man. The Inspector of the United State postal Service contacted the Sheriff's office with a report that they were alerted of an identity theft crime by Capital One bank.
38-year old Richard Miller of Kent New York allegedly used the card at various locations throughout Putnam County. Miller was charged with 4th degree grand larceny and 2nd degree identity theft.
He was released without bail for a September 26th court appearance.
