Records show Murphy late paying property taxes

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) Tax records show Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Christopher Murphy was late paying a real estate tax bill in 2005 and late paying his car taxes seven times between 1998 and 2005.

The records, obtained by The Hartford Courant, involve a $1,890 tax bill on Murphy's Cheshire home and on cars he owned in Southington.

The Courant reported Thursday that taxes on the cars went unpaid for as long as 10 months, but that Murphy eventually paid the bills along with $156 in interest.

Murphy campaign spokesman Ben Marter says Murphy fell behind on a number of bills during that time period, but paid back what he owed.

Murphy also has faced questions over a line of credit he received after being sued in 2007 for defaulting on his mortgage.
