The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 2010 data shows that about 30-percent of Connecticut children between the ages of 2 and 5 years old were obese or overweight. According to the Connecticut Commission on children, in 2005, one in four Connecticut high school students were obese or overweight.
Center Elementary School students are spending the week exploring health habits in their classrooms and during art, music, gym and library time. A "Health Habit Log" was given out to be used at home.
School officials say some of the healthy habit activities and discussions may include: eating healthy, exercising and learning how to play with others, proper hand washing to avoid the spread of germs, and being kind to others.
