Teen charged in fatal Southington apartment fire

SOUTHINGTON, Conn. (AP) A teenager has been charged in connection with a fatal apartment fire in Southington.

Police say they've charged 18-year-old Eric Morelli with one count of first-degree manslaughter and three counts of first-degree reckless endangerment in connection with Sunday's fire that killed 19-year-old Kristen Milano.

The medical examiner's office says Milano died of smoke inhalation in the fire at the Summer Brook Apartments, and has ruled her death a homicide.

She was found in a second-floor bedroom. Two of her relatives managed to escape.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but witnesses say it was started by someone who threw a firecracker at the apartment as a prank.

Morelli is being held on $150,000 bond.

Funeral services for Milano are scheduled for later this week.
