Connecticut mother, infant found safe in Arizona

TORRINGTON, Conn. (AP) Connecticut police say a woman and her month-old baby who went missing and prompted an Amber Alert have been found safe in Arizona.

Authorities say 30-year-old Amirah Alfar and her daughter, Shiloh Gilbert-Alfar, were found in Prescott Valley, Arizona, Monday afternoon, after having disappeared from Torrington.

Officials say FBI agents and local police spotted the mother and daughter leaving a relative's home. Police say the girl was placed in the custody of Arizona child welfare officials and was taken to a hospital for an evaluation as a precaution.

The Connecticut Department of Children and Families was supposed to take custody of the child over the weekend, but couldn't find her or her mother. Details of the custody action weren't immediately available.

It's not clear if Alfar will face charges.
