Groton man charged with leaving baby in hot car

GROTON, Conn. (AP) A Groton man has been arrested on child endangerment charges after customers at a New London grocery store discovered a baby alone in a hot car.

Police say 33-year-old Brian Pavao left his 6-month old daughter in the unlocked car Tuesday with a window opened less than an inch while he went shopping.

Police say the child was alone in the car for at least 30 minutes while temperature inside the vehicle climbed to 130 degrees.

The baby girl was taken to a local hospital for observation, but police say she was breathing and alert.

Pavao was charged with risk of injury to a child and is being held in lieu of $75,000 bond. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday.
