Waterford man charged again with kids in car

NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) A 60-year-old Waterford man who was charged this week with leaving his two children in a hot car had been arrested in January on drunken driving charges with the same children in the vehicle.

A bail commissioner told Judge Kevin McMahon Wednesday that John Morgan was placed into an alcohol diversion program after his DUI arrest.

He was arraigned Wednesday on charges of risk of injury to a minor. Police say the children, ages 6 and 9, were found sweating and red-faced in a car with the windows rolled up on Tuesday.

Morgan's attorney, Dean Golembeski, says Morgan had left the car for less than five minutes, and the air conditioning had been running before he turned the car off.

Morgan was released after posting a $45,000 bond.
