New London puts off vote on school superintendent

NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) New London's Board of Education has postponed a planned vote to approve the contract for its new superintendent of schools.

The board, in a press release, says it cancelled Monday's meeting to allow members time clarify Terrence Carter's recent statements about his credentials.

Carter has been accused of referring to himself as a doctor in numerous documents and publications. He is scheduled to receive his doctorate next month from Lesley University in Massachusetts.

The Day of New London also reports that Carter filed for bankruptcy protection in two states, but reached settlements with his creditors in both cases.

The board says it will hold a private conference call with Carter Thursday evening and has rescheduled its vote for immediately after that meeting.
