Correction Department says guard attacked at Suffield prison

SUFFIELD, Conn. (AP) The MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institute in Suffield was in lockdown after what prison officials describe as an assault on a correction officer.

Department of Correction spokeswoman Karen Martucci says 23-year-old Terril Edge, who was serving a three-year sentence for violating a protective order, assaulted the guard at about 9:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The guard was treated for non-life threatening injuries and release from a local hospital.

Edge was transferred to the high-security Northern Correctional Institution.

Martucci did not release any details of the incident, which is being investigated by state police.

Martucci says the lockdown will be lifted at the discretion of the warden.
