Connecticut fraud investigator charged with wire fraud

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) A Connecticut Department of Social Services official who manages state fraud and waste investigations is facing a federal wire fraud charge, stemming from false information he allegedly submitted for a personal mortgage modification.

Lynwood Patrick Jr. of East Hartford was arrested Wednesday at his home.

DSS said it's cooperating with federal authorities and conducting its own investigation. Patrick, a state employee since 1999, was placed on administrative leave.

Patrick is Director of Investigations for DSS's Office of Quality Assurance. He coordinates and conducts investigations into waste and fraud involving the state's Medicaid, Care4Kids, Supplemental Nutritional Assistance and Connecticut Energy Assistance programs.

Federal investigators said Patrick fabricated state paystubs and lied about his assets to qualify for a mortgage modification.

A home number listed for Patrick was not in service.
