Say yes to the dress? Not for 6 students at this high school

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) Officials at a Connecticut high school who reviewed 150 dresses in a crackdown on racy prom attire say just six show too much skin for Saturday's dance.

Shelton High School outside New Haven made national headlines when an official announced over the intercom last Friday that dresses that were backless, showed midriff or had cutouts on the side would be considered inappropriate and not be allowed at prom.

After an outcry from students and parents, students were invited to submit photos of their dresses to a committee of seven female staff members for a thumbs up or thumbs down decision.

School district spokeswoman Ann Baldwin says some students whose dresses were rejected are getting material added to them, while others have indicated they will wear other dresses.
