NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) Officials are praising the actions of a New Haven mother who reported her teenage son and a friend for having a sawed-off shotgun.
Police say the mother became concerned Monday evening when she overheard part of a ``disturbing'' phone conversation her 17-year-old son was having. The mother told police her son left the house carrying a duffel bag.
The boy said clothes were in the bag. But police say his mother felt something firm about a foot and a half in length.
The mother then alerted police to her son's whereabouts.
After finding the weapon, officers took the 16-year-old friend into custody. He was charged with possession of a shotgun and second-degree larceny.
The 17-year-old son was charged with possession of a shotgun, interfering with police and third-degree trespassing.
