2 ex-Wesleyan students face US charges over drug overdoses

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — Two former Wesleyan University students have pleaded not guilty to federal drug charges related to on-campus overdoses that sent 11 people to hospitals one weekend in February.

21-year-old Zachary Kramer, of Bethesda, Maryland, and 22-year-old Eric Lonergan, 22, of Rio de Janeiro, appeared Friday in federal court in New Haven. Each was released after the judge set bond at $250,000.

Kramer and Lonergan were among five Wesleyan students arrested previously on state charges in connection with the overdoses. The university says all five were expelled.

The drug was presented as Molly, a name for the euphoria-inducing stimulant MDMA. But authorities said testing revealed the drugs actually contained AB Fubinaca, a synthetic cannabinoid.

Kramer and Lonergan face charges including distribution of AB Fubinaca and conspiracy to distribute MDMA and AB Fubinaca.
