Man charged in severe beating of mother-in-law at horse farm

EAST HAMPTON, Conn. (AP) — State police have arrested a Portland man in connection with a home invasion and assault at an East Hampton horse farm that nearly killed his mother-in-law.

Troopers charged 28-year-old Matthew Frick on Thursday evening with aiding and abetting to a first-degree assault and other crimes.

Authorities say Frick's mother-in-law, 58-year-old Lisa Rader, suffered life-threatening injuries in the attack last September at White Birch Farm.

Rader told The Hartford Courant the attacker hit her in the head with a pot and struck her 41 times with a fireplace stoker. She suffered facial nerve damage and had screws implanted in her left arm and hand.

Frick posted $250,000 bail and was arraigned Friday in Middletown Superior Court. His lawyer didn't immediately return messages Friday. A phone listing for Frick couldn't be found.
