Man taken into custody after fleeing marshals in Groton

GROTON, Conn. (AP) Police in Groton say a man who fled from police and U.S. marshals when they attempted to serve a warrant has been taken into custody.

Lt. John Varone told The Day of New London  that shots were fired and authorities are investigating who fired them.

Varone said officers attempted to serve a warrant on the man in Navy housing but he jumped out of a second-story window and fled. He said the unidentified suspect is a convicted felon.

Several roads that were closed in the area during the search have since been reopened.

Residents were urged to shelter in place and wait for police to safely evacuate from their homes before the man was detained.

State police and officers from several nearby towns participated in the search.
