Quinnipiac University files suit against town of Hamden

HAMDEN, Conn. (AP) Quinnipiac University has filed a lawsuit against the town of Hamden after the zoning board denied its appeal of a finding that the school has violated a zoning deal for its York Hill dormitory project.

The New Haven Register reports when Quinnipiac was given zoning approval in 2007, one stipulation was that the school provide one bed for every undergraduate student. The university has not done so, but argues it has followed the spirit of the rule by providing a bed for every student who wants one.

The school says many students prefer to live off campus. Town officials counter that one bed for every student means one bed for every student.

The lawsuit filed in New Haven Superior Court asks to reverse the ZBA's decision and waive all fines relating to the violation.
