Police: Man crashed car, left behind injured girlfriend

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. (AP) A Willimantic man is accused of fleeing the scene of a car crash and leaving his injured girlfriend behind.

The two-car crash happened at around 2:45 p.m. Sunday in Willimantic. Police say 53-year-old Albert Hawley fled the car on foot and left his injured girlfriend in the passenger seat.

Police say they found Hawley was hiding in a nearby apartment complex.

His girlfriend was taken to Windham Hospital and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Her identity has not been released.

Two female occupants in the other car were uninjured.

Hawley was charged with failure to drive right, operating without a license and evading responsibility.
