Teen boat operator in fatal accident cited for infractions

GREENWICH, Conn. (AP) A teenage girl who operated a boat involved in a fatal accident on Long Island Sound last year has been cited for infractions and fined $150.

Greenwich police announced Friday that they completed an investigation into the death of 16-year-old Greenwich High School student Emily Fedorko, who died after being struck by a boat propeller while tubing on Aug. 6, 2014.

A state prosecutor determined the boat operator, 17-year-old Elizabeth Lewis of Greenwich, would be the only person prosecuted. Police said Lewis was charged with violating boating regulations, having insufficient personal floatation devices while waterskiing and not adhering to rules preventing collisions.

She was issued an infraction complaint ticket with fines totaling $150.

The accident also injured a 15-year-old girl who was tubing with Fedorko.
