Former principal may lose teaching license over abuse claims

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) A former Connecticut principal who was suspended and then resigned after she was caught on camera dragging kindergarten children down a hallway may lose her teaching certification.

The state Department of Education began hearings Wednesday in Hartford on Carmen Perez Dickson's bid for certification after her application was denied.

The Bridgeport woman was seen on videotape dragging kindergarten children down a corridor in the Tisdale School in February and March of 2012. Staff also accused her of hitting children.

She was suspended in November 2013, and later resigned.

Dickson's lawyer has said her actions were appropriate for the situation and the school board makes physical force an option when necessary.

The Connecticut Post reports that the hearing continues today, with attorney Donal Collimore serving as hearing officer.
