2 injured by power boat propeller in Connecticut River

HADDAM, Conn. (AP) Officials say two people were injured by a power boat propeller in Connecticut.

Department of Energy and Environmental Protection spokesman Dennis Schain says a man and a woman jumped off the boat to swim in the Connecticut River and were struck by a propeller when another person drove it toward them at around 6 p.m. Sunday in Haddam.

Six people were on board.

Schain says the 23-year-old woman suffered severe cuts to her lower extremities and was taken to Hartford Hospital where she is in stable condition.

The man, who is the owner of the 26-foot power boat, had minor injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene.

Environmental Conservation police charged the driver with first-degree reckless operation of a vessel while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
