Officials: Crews pull 24-year-old man from pond

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (AP) Officials say the body of a 24-year-old man was recovered from a pond in Connecticut.

Authorities responded to a 911 call just after 3 p.m. Wednesday saying that a man had jumped into an illegal swimming hole in Middletown and didn't resurface.

Middletown South Fire District Chief Robert Ross says the man was in about 30 feet of water for little over an hour before rescuers pulled him out.

Ross says the man was unconscious and taken to Middlesex Hospital. His condition is not known.

Ross says the area ``is not a safe place'' and it was extremely challenging to recover the swimmer.

The victim's identity has not been released. Middletown police are investigating the incident.
