BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) Bridgeport's latest gun buyback has taken 127 weapons off city streets.
The no-questions-asked program was held in the Police Department's Community Services Division, with the city paying $200 for a working handgun, $100 for rifles and up to $400 for an assault-style rifle.
Chief Joseph Gaudett Jr. tells The Connecticut Post (http://bit.ly/1PuqTUD) that every gun turned in is a gun that won't be used in a crime and won't fall into the hands of a child.
Mayor Bill Finch says more than 1,000 guns have been turned in since the occasional program started in 2012.
