DMV temporarily closing smaller offices to deal with backlog

WETHERSFIELD, Conn. (AP) Connecticut's Department of Motor Vehicles is temporarily suspending services at its four photo driver's license centers in order reassign workers to reduce wait times at larger branch offices.

The DMV has been dealing with long lines and wait times after a temporary shutdown earlier this month for a major computer upgrade.

Beginning Aug. 11, the deadline for people whose licenses, registrations or ID cards are expiring was extended to Oct. 10.

People needing to renew or get a duplicate license or ID card can also go to AAA offices, and many license and registration services are available online.

The four centers that are temporarily closing usually operate Wednesdays and Fridays in Derby and Middletown, and Tuesdays and Thursdays in Milford.
