Man arrested after leading police on chase in Hamden

HAMDEN, Conn. (AP) An East Haven man has been arrested after police say he led them on a chase in Hamden, struck a police car, kidnapped his passenger, and had drugs in his vehicle.

Police say the suspect, identified as Israel Santiago, fled after officers tried to pull him over for driving erratically at about 6 p.m. Monday.

Police say while fleeing, Santiago vehicle struck a police cruiser.

One officer fired his weapon during the chase. No one was hurt.

When Santiago's vehicle became disabled, he allegedly tried to flee on foot and was arrested.

Police say his passenger asked several times to be let out of the vehicle, but was refused. Officers say they discovered crack cocaine in the vehicle. Santiago is being held on $100,000 bond.
