Officials: Hartford deputy fire chief suspended without pay

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) A Hartford deputy fire chief has been suspended after officials say he endangered firefighters under his command.

Fire officials tell the Hartford Courant James McLoughlin was suspended for 15 days without pay on Friday.

Authorities say McLoughlin sent firefighters into a house despite being told not to by an assistant chief.

McLoughlin told investigators he did not receive that information.

Officials say McLoughlin failed to see numerous red flags, including the partial collapse of the front wall, the roof and the internal floor.

McLoughlin was the incident commander at a fire last October in which a firefighter was killed and several others were injured. A board of inquiry found he did not acknowledge another firefighter's mayday call during that fire.
