Ex-teacher charged for allegedly trying to kiss student

SHELTON, Conn. (AP) A 57-year-old Connecticut teacher is facing charges after police say he took a 17-year-old student out to dinner and tried to kiss her on the lips.

Police say George Perduta, a former math teacher at Shelton High School, turned himself in on Tuesday.

Police say he and the female student went out to dinner in April and he asked her about her relationship status, which made her uncomfortable.

The girl told police that after dinner, Perduta tried to kiss her.

Perduta is charged with disorderly conduct and was released on $500 bond.

He did not return calls.

Shelton school officials say he resigned in May.
