Teacher, facing 2 drunken driving allegations, resigns

STONINGTON, Conn. (AP) A teacher at a Stonington elementary school has resigned following two drunken driving allegations in less than a year.

The Board of Education was informed by the principal of the West Vine Street School that Anne Collette had submitted her resignation last week for personal reasons.

Collette taught first grade and has been in Stonington for 18 years.

The Day reports that Collette, charged in connection with a crash on U.S. Route 1 last October, had been charged with driving under the influence in Rhode Island in May as well as reckless driving in Stonington in April after police say she was seen weaving and throwing liquor bottles out her car window.

She pleaded no contest to the Rhode Island charges, but has appealed.

Charges in Connecticut are pending.
