Police: New London child's burns appear accidental

NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) Police say it appears that an accident may have caused a 2-year-old city boy to suffer burns over 50 percent of his body.

The boy is said to be in stable condition at Shriners Hospital for Children in Boston and investigators say his parents are ``cooperating fully'' with them and the state Department of Children and Families.

The exact nature of the accident was not disclosed.

The Day reports that an ambulance went to a city home late Sunday morning after a report that the boy was having trouble breathing. When the ambulance personnel arrived, they determined the child was suffering from first- and second-degree burns to approximately half his body.

He was taken to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital and later airlifted in critical condition to Boston.
