Hartford man charged with killing nephew held on $1M bail

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) A 67-year-old Hartford man charged with stabbing his nephew to death has been held on $1 million bail.

Jose Colon was arraigned Monday in Superior Court.

The Courant reports that police responded to an apartment last Thursday where they found Colon with minor injuries to his head and hands, and his nephew, 55-year-old Roberto Perales, unresponsive in a bathtub.

Both men were taken to the hospital where Perales died.

Police say the men fought and Colon used a kitchen knife to stab Perales four times. A roommate told police Perales was put in the tub to wash his wounds.

Colon's court-appointed lawyer asked that her client be placed on medical watch and undergo detoxification in jail because she was not able to have a meaningful discussion with him.
