Connecticut man who killed wife back behind bars

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) A Connecticut man who spent 13 years in prison for killing his wife and dumping her body in a river is back behind bars for violating terms of probation by going to Canada.

Luis Castelare was sentenced on Tuesday to five months in prison and three years of special parole.

Authorities say the 65-year-old Castelare illegally walked into Canada from New York in March even though he was not supposed to leave Connecticut.

The Connecticut Post reports that Castelare told the judge he could not find work in the U.S. and was ``under stress from poverty and being homeless.''

Castelare confessed to police in Arizona in 2002 to killing his wife in Stratford nine years earlier. He pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in her death.
