Man guilty of 2012 execution of other man at sports field

NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) A man has been found guilty of murder in the 2012 death of a 28-year old man who was shot in the head on a sports field in western Connecticut.

A jury found 37-year-old Dequan McKethan guilty of murder Friday afternoon in New London Superior Court stemming from the killing of 28-year-old Darius Bishop. McKethan was also convicted of carrying a pistol without a permit and possession of narcotics.

Prosecutors said Bishop was taken to the Charles Long Sports Complex in Bozrah to be executed on Sept. 25, 2012. The motive for the murder was unclear.

McKethan rejected a plea agreement of 40 years in prison and now faces more than 60 years. His sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 20.

McKethan told state police he had bought marijuana from Bishop.
