HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) Court documents show that the mother of a 4-year-old girl found wandering alone in Hartford told police she left her child so she could be paid for sex.

Twenty-two-year-old Shi'day Nicks appeared in court Wednesday on charges of risk of injury to a minor, reckless endangerment and leaving a child under 12 unsupervised.

Officers brought the girl home after receiving a report that she was walking by herself Tuesday morning.

Court documents show Nicks told police that evening she left her daughter alone for hours while she met a man who promised to pay her $230 for sexual favors. She said she is facing eviction.

Nicks is being held on $50,000 bail and is due back in court on Oct. 21. It's unclear if she has a lawyer.
