Alleged gang members in New Haven charged with 6 murders

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) Federal and local authorities say they've busted up a violent New Haven street gang and charged several members with murder, gun crimes, drug dealing and racketeering.

Federal prosecutors; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; and New Haven police announced the charges Thursday against six members of the Red Side Guerilla Brims. Officials said a grand jury indicted the gang members on federal charges Wednesday.

Authorities say the gang is affiliated with the Bloods gang in New Haven, and that its members killed six people and wounded several others in 2011 and early 2012. Four of the six men who were indicted face the possibility of the federal death penalty.

Law enforcement officials have previously arrested several other members of the gang.
