Police: Dead dog put out for trash pickup in New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) Neighbors and pet lovers are up in arms after a dead dog was found in a crate put out for trash collection in New Haven on Memorial Day.

Police were called to a residence on Blake Street after the dog was found Monday among bagged leaves and other trash left for pickup.

District patrol Sgt. Steven Teague says the canine is a small white ``lap dog'' with no noticeable signs of trauma.

Police are investigating, although Teague says it's likely the incident is a case of someone whose pet died and they didn't know how to properly deal with its disposal.

It's unclear who the dog belonged to or how it died. Police are attempting to locate the owners of the home where the dog was found in front of.
