Connecticut judicial marshal faces ID theft charge

LITCHFIELD, Conn. (AP) A state judicial marshal assigned to Waterbury Superior Court has been charged with bilking an 86-year-old Torrington man out of thousands of dollars.

Authorities say 38-year-old Michael Jones used the older man's Social Security number to obtain a credit card that was used to buy bunk beds, gas, and a down payment on a $28,000 motorcycle.

The bank that issued the card tipped off the alleged victim.

Police say Jones knows the older man. Jones told police he was the older man's nephew and the credit card was a joint account which he had permission to use. Police say that's not true.

Jones, who faces charges including larceny, identity theft and criminal impersonation, remains free but has been suspended from his job without pay.
