Charges dropped against one man in grave-robbing case

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - Prosecutors have dropped charges against a Connecticut man who had been charged in connection with the theft of human bones from a Massachusetts cemetery.

Felix Delgado was one of two men charged with stealing the remains from Hope Cemetery in Worcester.

A spokesman for the district attorney's office tells the Telegram Gazette that forensic analysis found that the bones from Delgado's Bridgeport home were not consistent with the remains stolen from Hope Cemetery.

Delgado and the other man said they were Santeria priests and the bones were used for religious purposes. Santeria is a mix of Christianity and African faith practiced in the Caribbean.

Delgado, who had been held on $100,000 bail since his February arraignment, was turned to authorities in Springfield, Massachusetts, where he faces unrelated charges.
