HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - It appears unlikely the House of Representatives will attempt to override Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy's rare $22 million line-item budget veto.

A veto session is scheduled for Monday, but House Majority Leader Joe Aresimowicz says the House Democrats, who control the chamber, only plan to hold a closed-door caucus meeting to discuss "a host of issues."

Malloy, a Democrat, issued the line-item veto after lawmakers failed to pass his criminal justice bill in special session. It was expected to save $15 million in the new budget. The bulk of the cut, $20 million, comes from a reduction in state aid to municipalities.

Minority Republican leaders have urged the majority Democrats to override the veto, saying the cuts add "an insurmountable" burden to towns who've already received funding reductions.
