Several arrested after post-sentencing fight at courthouse

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - Six people have been arrested following a fight outside the Main Street courthouse in Bridgeport.

The Connecticut Post reports the fight broke out Friday morning following the sentencing of 40-year-old Efraim Rivera of Bridgeport.

He had pleaded guilty to manslaughter and assault in the May 2015 fatal shooting of 34-year-old Miguel Martinez, and the wounding his younger brother, Jose.

Assistant State's Attorney Michael DeJoseph said the shooting was the result of a long-standing feud between the Riveras and the Martinez brothers.

Police say members of the Martinez family, upset with Rivera's 10-year sentence, began arguing with members of Rivera's family outside the courthouse.

Police say several people then began wielding wrenches and baseball bats.

The names of those arrested Friday and the charges they face were not immediately available.
