Police: Connecticut man shoots himself in leg while dancing

STRATFORD, Conn. (AP) - Police say a Connecticut man accidentally shot himself in the leg while dancing.

And to add insult to injury, the Stratford man is now facing criminal charges.

Police tell The Connecticut Post they responded to a home in town on Sunday for reports of gunfire. Officers found 32-year-old Kiel Helenese holding a bloody rag on his right leg. He told officers he had been dancing with some friends at a holiday party when a pistol on his right hip went off.

He was treated at the hospital.

He was also charged with possession of a loaded gun while under the influence of alcohol, unlawful discharge of a firearm and first-degree reckless endangerment. He is free on $1,000 bond. He could not immediately be reached.
